Bigfoot Youth - bike hire 2016

posted 3 Nov 2015, 03:36 by Bigfoot Go-Ride
Last year Bigfoot Youth secured grant funding that enabled us to buy a number of new bikes which we were then able to offer to Bigfoot Youth members on a long term hire agreement.

We are hoping that we may be able to repeat the scheme in the next few months, and are now gathering expressions of interest.

If you are the parent of a Bigfoot Youth rider who needs a new bike (this can include those who benefited last year, but are outgrowing their bikes) please read the details below and if interested please confirm your interest by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

The scheme details

Last year we purchased bikes from Islabikes, from their Louath range, a bike that can be used both as a road bike and cyclocross bike. This year we want to hear what types of bikes you need and any other comments you have.

Initial financing

  • We share the costs.
  • If the bike costs £500, we share the costs with you 50/50.
  • So you would pay £250 (a deposit) and Bigfoot would pay £250.

Responsibilities

  • You are responsible for all repairs and maintenance and at the end of the "hire" period to return the bike clean and in good working order.
  • If not in good repair, Bigfoot Go-Ride will carry out any repairs and deduct the cost from your deposit.
  • You are responsible for keeping the bike safe and secure.
  • If the bike is lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair you will loose your deposit. And we may also ask you to pay Bigfoot the £250 that we had paid towards the bike – that will enable us to provide another bike through this scheme.

When you have finished with the bike

  • You have the bike for as long as you like, but when you return it to us in good working order and clean we will refund you your £250 deposit less £60 for each year or part of a year in which you have had the bike.
  • In essence it means you are hiring the bike for £60 per year or part year, plus any ongoing maintenance costs.

Reusing the bike

  • After you have finished with the bike we will offer it to another young rider on a similar basis, though the deposit will be lower (as the bike will be second hand).
